How do you correct post-summer sun damage?

Unprotected exposure to the sun should be avoided, however, if your skin has been exposed to UVA/UVB rays and you have experienced sun damage (skin sagging, wrinkling, and discoloration), there are methods to help reverse these effects.

First and foremost, apply and reapply an SPF 30 or higher broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. In conjunction with daily use of sunscreen, wearing sun-protective clothing with UPF protection will help prevent new sun damage and further damage. This September, customers can enjoy 20% off all sun smart UPF protected hats.

For those with existing sun damage, the following treatments are proven to help reduce the appearance of skin sagging, wrinkling, and discoloration:

DiamondTome™ Microdermabrasion

DiamondTome Skin Rejuvenation is a state-of-the-art crystal-free diamond skin exfoliation system. Also known as micro-exfoliation, it offers benefits to anyone who wants to improve specific skin conditions and rejuvenate the overall health and appearance of their skin. In addition to improving the condition of sun damaged skin, the DiamondTome Skin Rejuvenation, reduces the appearance of acne scars, and extracts blackheads and whiteheads.

Photodynamic Therapy

A laser treatment called Photodynamic Therapy can reverse the damaging effects of sun exposure. The treatment uses a photosensitizing agent called Levulan, which is activated by an exact wavelength of light. Once activated, the agent creates a formula of oxygen to kill unhealthy skin cells. The agent’s targeted precision can effectively reverse sun damage, lighten age spots and can even eliminate precancerous cells in the treatment area. Results may vary with each patient, however, multiple treatments are required for optimum results. For more information on Photodynamic Therapy, call us at 512.379.6090.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are used to improve the overall appearance of the skin. Typically, chemical peels are performed on the face, neck or hands. Depending on skin type and desired results, your provider will choose the appropriate solution. The new, regenerated skin following treatment is smoother and softer.

Collins Advanced Dermatology Institute offers the following chemical peels; click here to explore which peel is right for you:
