Kybella is a prescription medication used in adults to improve the appearance of moderate to severe submental fat – also referred to as the “double chin”— in this area. Each injection is comprised of synthetic deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Once injected, Kybella begins to destroy fat cells under the chin, resulting in a very noticeable decrease in the size of your submental fullness. After a few treatments (no more than 6), the destroyed fat cells under your chin can no longer accumulate fat. At this point, most patients remark that their “double chin” has all but disappeared.
