Have you ever wanted to re-invent the surface of your skin to recover the appearance of youthful firmness and a radiant, flawless finish? Enter: Chemical peels.

What do chemical peels do?

Chemical peeling is used to improve the overall appearance of the skin. Typically, chemical peels are used on the face, neck or hands. There are various types of chemical peels depending on your skin type and desired results, but all carry intensive, exfoliating properties that tighten the appearance of pores and hydrates and regenerates the skin while minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.

How do chemical peels work?

While all have varying strengths and contain various acids, chemical peels, overall, work to slough off dead skin cells, preparing a fresh, new layer of skin. Designed to combat skin that has lost some of its youth, chemical peels contain concentrated exfoliants that speed up cell renewal. Often thought of as a more abrasive treatment, chemical peels are actually a skin care necessity, shrinking the appearance of pores, improving elasticity, and protecting against moisture loss. You might think a chemical peel will dry out your skin more, but you’ll never get hydration in if your top layer is dry skin cells.

How do I know which chemical peel to use?

Your skin concerns will be the deciding factor in choosing which chemical peel is right for you. Chemical peels differ in the depth of penetration. For example, if your goal is to simply exfoliate the skin, a light chemical peel will do the trick. If you want to significantly change the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, a problem in the deep layers of the skin, a deeper chemical peel is required.

At Collins Advanced Dermatology Institute, we offer four types of chemical peels:

NeoStrata® Glycolic Acid Peels—This glycolic peel is 100% free acid, meaning it is not partially neutralized or esterified, which can inhibit penetration. This peel can be delivered at different concentrations—depending on the desired result—to improve skin imperfections such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and blemishes.

B-LIFTx ® (Beta Hydroxy)—Using salicylic acid, this peel is a highly effective superficial peeling agent, oil reducer and pore cleanser that gently reduces acne inflammation, softens wrinkles and improves texture and clarity.

VI Peel—Containing a synergistic formula of acids, this peel targets hyperpigmentation, melasma, skin discolorations, fine lines and wrinkles, acne, texture, and tone.

TCA Peel—This peel uses trichloroacetic acid to dry the top layers of skin so they peel off over a period of several days. The treatment is used to reduce discoloration, improve melasma, and reduce fine lines.
